Since my July update never appeared, here's my update on my Writing Goals and Reading Challenges for both July and August. . .

WRITING GOAL PROGRESS:

- Heart of the Wastelands (a post-apocalyptic steampunky romance): Word count? Not so great these last 2 months. I'm now at 55,447 words in my first draft. Goal in September: 70,000 words or bust!

- Hunt (a YA urban fantasy with the Wild Hunt): Still waiting on its rewrite until the first draft of HotW is finished. La la la . . .

- Travel Articles - Wrote 1 new one and pitched 2 old ones. I have 1 more to rewrite and pitch, and 2 others in the works.  That puts me at 2/12 for my goal, but I still have hope to achieve it.

- Short Stories -  Pill Hill Press' The ePocalypse: Emails from the End is out (apocalyptic stories in email format) with Animal Kingdoom in it, that I collaborated on with Anne Michaud and Anna Ivanovic. I'm also rewriting another short story I have, and preparing to pitch it. My original goal for the year was 6 short stories. What I've realized is that short stories may not really be my thing. But I am at 1/6.

READING CHALLENGE PROGRESS:

Check out the challenges here for the full details.

1) Book Chick City's Horror and Urban Fantasy Challenge - 6 more UF/horror books read in July & August, bringing me to a total of 19/24

2) The Support Your Local Library Challenge - I've definitely supported mine! I chose the "mega" sized challenge at the beginning of the year with a goal of 51+ books library books, and I've already hit 55 after the addition of 16 books in July & August.

3) The What's in a Name (title) Challenge - Still have to read a book with a life stage in the title. Hm. I keep thinking "Is a Duke a life stage? How about a rake?" Ha.

4) The A-Z Reading Challenge - I added K, U, and Y in July and August. Still to come? J, O, Q, V, X, and Z. Ick.
